About the Colorado SBDC

The SBDC is dedicated to helping existing and new businesses grow and prosper in Colorado by providing free and confidential consulting and no- or low-cost training programs.

  • No cost business consulting

    The SBDC has 15 locations around the state with a team of business experts ready to help small business owners create and retain jobs, secure loans, increase sales, win government contracts, obtain certifications and more.

  • No or low cost training courses

    Each SBDC offers affordable training classes on starting a business, marketing, bookkeeping and more. Courses are offered virtually or in-person depending on the center.

  • Specialty Programs

    Throughout the state, SBDC offers specialty programs that focus on tech commercialization, cybersecurity, construction, contracting and business planning.

Know Your Responsibilities

Understand what is expected as a SBDC consultant and make sure to check in with your Center Director for their expectations.

  • CONSULT: You must be able to explain the services and expectations of your center. Make sure that you assess the client's needs and take notes to document in CRM

  • REPORT: Consultants are required to document and and track their activity in CenterIC

  • INVOICE: Invoice in a timely manner and ensure that your invoice hours match what has been inputed into CenterIC.

Consultant Training Modules

The Colorado SBDC requires you to complete four training modules before you begin consulting. The modules cover policies & procedures, best practices and tests your knowledge and expertise.

Colorado SBDC Policies

By completing consultant training modules 1-4, you have already signed off on these forms, but please review and refer back to these policies and procedures. 

  • Conflict of Interest: The purpose of this policy is (a) to prevent the actions of any employee, volunteer or independent contractor of the Colorado Small Business Development Center Network from constituting a conflict of interest, and (b) to clarify the conditions and actions that constitute a conflict of interest.
  • Articles of Professional Behavior: CSBDC employees, Agents, volunteers, private or faculty consultants, or other individuals that provide counseling or other forms of assistance to a client on the behalf of the CSBDC must avoid all possible appearances of conflict of interest in which there is personal gain or benefit to the individual representing the CSBDC.

The Colorado SBDC offers different specialty programs that focus on different industries. These programs are offered at different centers and are a great tool to utilize with consultants.
